Out-of-this-world resort planned for Grand Canyon
A team of Phoenix-based architects and builders on Monday shared their vision of a unique use of the west end of the Grand Canyon with Mohave County supervisors.
The hotel would use new technology similar to what’s used in a space station. The architect firm says the hotel will be self-sufficient by using solar, geothermal and wind generators for power. It will be built into the walls of the canyon similar to the Anasazi Native American cliff dwellings of Northern Arizona. Water could be from wells drilled, but about 90% to 95% of the water would be recycled, with the remainder coming from rain runoff. If the county approves and it gets built, the architectural firm said the project would create temporary construction jobs plus permanent service or maintenance jobs.
