2/23 Topock - TOPOCK SCHOOL NEWS
by Beverley James

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!
We at Topock Elementary celebrate these individuals and families who have taken advantage of Arizona School Tax Credit Program, Arizona Law A.R.S. 43-1089.01 which sets ups a win/win situation for the citizens and students. The result of individuals donating $200 or couples donating $400 is that the donations provided a $ for $ tax credit to these Arizona state tax payers, and then the money allows extracurricular activities and opportunities to our students that we could not otherwise provide.

This reporter’s question is why send the money to the state and let them do what they want with it when it can stay right here in our community where we know what should be done with it? So, next year around tax time, please consider dropping by our school with a $ for $ tax credit donation for your community’s school which means for your community’s children.

Grand Canyon Ranger Visits
Sometimes we don’t think about how fortunate we are to be an easy drive from the one of the Wonders of the World, the awesome Grand Canyon. Our students were recently reminded of this splendor as Ranger Katie lead our classes through some activities to learn about the Grand Canyon’s sensory experience with preschoolers and kindergartners, the use of all five senses to experience the Canyon with first and second grade, geology with the third grade, archaeology with the fourth and fifth grades, and ecology with the junior high. Presentations, which required teachers to wear costumes as part of the lessons, were held in our multi-media center. These experiences are provided thanks to the Grand Canyon Association. This fine organization is also providing Topock Elementary with gas money so our fourth and fifth graders can actually visit the Grand Canyon to take a lesson in human history on the site where ancient Native Americans lived, hunted, and thrived. Take a look at Ranger Katie and our kids and strange people in costumes on our Web page.

Where are they now?
Former Topock student/athletes are out making names for themselves and news for us. Rudy Wahlstrom (Waldo’s grandson) represented River Valley High School in the State Wrestling Championships in Prescott February 13-14. Johnny Guarisco, (Miss Charolette’s and Pete’s grandson) is a starting forward on the Mohave High School Basketball team. Jack Jolly is the starting quarterback of the River Valley High School Varsity football team. Way to go former Hawks. We are proud of you.
