County seeking funding for Vanderslice 95 bypass
The county learned two weeks ago that the Highway 95 Vanderslice bypass project was not selected for funding from the federal stimulus through the U.S. Department of Transportation. The alternate route project through Mohave Valley was not on the list since the final design has not been completed. The final design has not been completed because of the lack of funding. Only the design concept report is complete. Other funding for the project is being sought.
Two miles of Vanderslice Road from Courtwright to Laguna roads plus a one-mile section from Camp Mohave Road to Sterling Road has already been paved. The project would turn Vanderslice Road into a paved, 2-lane, north-south alternative road to Highway 95. Cost estimates for a 2-lane road are more than $12 million. Vanderslice Road would run north and south parallel to Highway 95, connecting Bullhead Parkway with Courtwright Road and help relieve the traffic burden from the busy highway. The transportation commission will meet at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at District 2 Sup. Tom Sockwell’s office at 1130 Hancock Road in Bullhead City.
