5.14 Arizona - Treasurer Dean Martin said state in debt over $86 Billion

State treasurer Dean Martin said Arizona has written 200 IOUs this fiscal year totaling $86 billion. He said the state does not have the money for the checks it is writing.

Martin said that money is going to run out pretty soon and either the state needs to bring in more revenue or cut more spending. He said the state needs to cut spending across the board.

Martin hopes Proposition 100 fails, the 1% sales tax increase.

He said if he were governor he would deploy National Guard troops to the Arizona/Mexico border. He said a deployment would require thousands of troops and would be expensive, but he says the state would save money with lower costs for state services.

This year Martin is challenging Governor Jan Brewer in the Republican primary for the governor's position.
