5.5 Las Vegas - Nevadans feel state should adopt immigration law similar to Arizona

Immigration reform advocates who organized last weekend’s demonstration in Las Vegas are planning a new protest of Arizona’s controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio, infamous for his tough-as-nails law enforcement tactics in Maricopa County, will be in southern Nevada Friday. He supports Arizona’s new immigration law, which, among other things, makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally.

In a news release, Reform Immigration for America denounced what they called “Arpaio’s inhumane ways of treating the Hispanic community.”

A spokesperson said the group is also planning to protest southern Nevada businesses in favor of Arizona’s law, although they did not provide a list.

A majority of respondents to a recent TV station web poll said the Silver State should adopt a similar law.
