Student pilot crashes plane at Lake Havasu City airport
A female student pilot, 36, of Lake Havasu City, was practicing touch-and-go maneuvers Saturday at Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport. Her Piper Cherokee aircraft crashed and overturned at about 10:30 a.m. The plane sustained extensive damage.
The accident supervisor at the scene said, “It was a student pilot, a female, who, luckily, was able to walk away with abrasions to a leg and a sore shoulder.”
Some of the fuel from the plane caught fire causing a momentary fireball, but the flames quickly burned out. Foam was sprayed on the plane to prevent fire from re-igniting.
The pilot was treated at the scene and she walked away.
