May - Golden Shores - TOPOCK SCHOOL NEWS

We would be honored to have you stop in to see our events. It makes us feel special to have you as our guests and proud to show what we are all about.

End of Year Activities
Students will be splashing around in Needles Pool one afternoon a week this May

May 6 Art fair in the library from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. displaying this year’s student artwork. You are invited; you will be awed by the artistic expertise.

May 6 Science fair in the cafetorium from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You are invited; you will be amazed at the creative genius.

May 7 Eighth graders to visit River Valley High School from 9:00-1:00 for pre-orientation.

May 8 Topock Hawks will compete in a wrestling tournament at River Valley High

May 10 – 14 Book Fair in the library

May 12 Mrs. Zellar’s drama class will present a trio of songs from Broadway Musicals on Wednesday at 12:30 in the afternoon and Friday at 9:00 a.m. You are invited. You will be delighted with the local talent.

May 13 The fourth and fifth grades have been awarded a National Parks’ grant to visit the Grand Canyon, gas included. The bus will leave promptly at 4:00 a.m. Yes, that is early. Students better get all ready the night before. This is a history lesson about people who made their homes in the Canyon hundreds of years ago. We will visit their sites and study their artifacts to learn how they thrived.

May 18 voting day

May 19 annual trip to Aquatic Center in Lake Havasu City for kindergarten through fifth grades.

May 20 Eighth grade promotion ceremony at 6:00 in the cafetorium.
This year’s class has invited several guest speakers:
Mrs. Wait a former Topock Elementary educator who is currently teaching at River Valley High;
Mrs. Massey because they are the first class of students she taught after earning her teaching credential;
and Mr. Harry Vinson who attended Topock Elementary for 1st – 3rd grades in 1934-1935.
We are delighted with their choices, proud to have been their teachers, and expecting great things from them.

May 21 Student Council appreciation day. Mrs. York and Mrs. Dowling are taking council members to Phoenix to spend the day.

May 24 half day

May 25 half day Fifth grade kayaking day

May 26 half day
• Kindergarten graduation ceremony will be held at 9:30
• Preschool slide show will be held at 10:30
• Parents of both classes are invited to a joint pizza luncheon after the ceremonies.

May 27 half day and last day

Serving our country:
Brittany Lenhart is stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. She is an Aerospace Propulsion Journeyman.
Thank you Brittany; you are in our hearts.

Next year’s preschoolers can start this year:
Students are looking forward to May 3rd. This is when they move forward to the teacher they will have next year.

Teachers are making big plans for a jump start to school year 2010-2011. Students who will be in preschool next year can also join us this year from May 3rd to May 21st and will have the same hours as kindergarten which will be 8:30 – 2:30. All children that will be four years old by September 1st are eligible to attend. Children must be potty trained and able to use the restroom by themselves.

Parents/guardians must provide:
• a state issued birth certificate
• $2.00 per day tuition
• transportation to and from school
• school uniforms.
