The parents of a Golden Shores resident were victims of the Grandparent-Bail-Scam last week.

The resident did some research on this scam, which anyone can find info about on the internet.

These creeps have used this scam on grandparents around the world, getting as much as $140,000 from one 80-year-old grandmother.

The caller makes the grandparent think they are helping a grandson or granddaughter get out of some kind of serious trouble. They are clever about getting information out of the upset grandparents and have several different versions about what kind of trouble the grandchild is in. Then they have various reasons why money needs to be sent to the lawyer that they need, who happens to be outside the U.S. at the given moment.

The grandparents, like all the victims, are convinced that the person on the phone, asking them to wire money, is their grandchild. The caller will promise to pay the money back when he gets home and ask that the parents not be worried with the situation.

Of course there is nothing anyone can do to get the victims' money back. There are a lot of elderly grandparents that read this newspaper. GSX News has run this story a couple of times before, but it's worth reminding our readers.

Remember, it only takes a minute to make a phone call to the grandchild or their parents. Save yourself a lot of grief and a lot of money.
