Fighter jets scramble, 2 planes forced to land
During President Barack Obama’s visit to Las Vegas, the pilots of two planes were met by F-16 fighter jets as they flew into restricted air space on Friday.
Both jets took off from the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs to intercept the Cessna single-engine air planes shortly after 7:00 a.m. One plane was ordered to land at the North Las Vegas Airport, while the other landed in Mesquite. Authorities interviewed the pilots on the ground, but no arrests were made. The temporary flight restriction was put in place Thursday when Obama arrived for a rally at CityCenter in support of Democratic Senator Harry Reid.
