Woman shoots husband, then self at Valley Hospital
There are signs warning of the facility’s no-weapons policy at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. Those signs didn’t prevent a woman from shooting her husband and herself inside a room Monday morning. The woman's husband had been admitted to the hospital August 3rd, police said.
The woman had been visiting her husband throughout the night, never left, and in the morning she decided to do what she did, according to Metro Police. The couple, who both died from a single gunshot wound, have been identified but information is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin and autopsies, police said. Police said the husband had been admitted for unknown mental issues and his condition was deteriorating. Once staff heard gunshots, the hospital was locked down, but it wasn’t evacuated. A spokeswoman for Valley Hospital issued a statement saying, “We are very proud of how our staff responded to this unfortunate situation, and they should be commended for their actions.” The hospital is open and police don’t believe any other staff or patients are in danger. However, in the wake of the shootings, some visitors don’t feel entirely safe. A male visitor said, "I wouldn't expect somebody to come in here with a gun. I mean, what does that tell you about security? Ha! Not too good." His wife is in the hospital. After hearing what happened on the fourth floor, he’s convinced more security, including metal detectors, is necessary. "Who knows what would have happened? You know some crazy thing goes off in there and starts shooting somebody. I've heard of it in Arizona,” he said. Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow.
