8.22 Lake Mohave - Pahrump man, 18, dies in cliff diving accident

The body of a Pahrump teen was recovered from Lake Mohave late Saturday night after an incident early in the day involving cliff diving with his friends near Placer Cove.

At about 4:30pm, Dean Berhow Jr., 18, and his friend were diving from Cliffs near Placer Cove, when according to witnesses Berhow jumped in the water from a height of thirty feet. A friend dove in right after him, but did not see that he had not cleared the area.

The friend said he landed on the victim and saw him start to sink underwater. Three other friends who witnessed the incident jumped in to attempt a rescue Berhow but said their friend's body was sinking too fast.

The National Park Services with assistance from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Dive Team responded to the scene. Divers recovered the body of the teen from approximately fifty feet of water at 10:30 p.m. Saturday night from the waters near Placer Cove on Lake Mohave.
