US Marshals say AZ prison escapee and accomplice, McCluskey and Welch, in custody in Apache County
Escaped Arizona inmate John McCluskey and his fiancée, Casslyn Welch, who have been on the run since July 30, were captured in Apache County near Greer, Arizona, late Thursday.
The U.S. Forest Service played a role in their capture. At around 5:00 p.m., a forest ranger saw an unattended campfire. He saw a silver car backed into the trees as if it was hidden. He retrieved the license plate number which checked out to be a stolen New Mexico plate. Forest workers then contacted the Apache County Sheriff's Office and said they had seen two two people who matched the description of the fugitives at a campground in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. ACSO gathered a swat team and were able to take McCluskey and Welch into custody. The pair initially resisted arrest, but both were taken into custody without incident. ACSO said that Casslyn Welch had a gun on her person which she drew, but officers already had weapons trained on her. At that point she surrendered. John McCluskey was taken down by officers, but stated that if he could have gotten to his gun, he would have killed all the officers. Welch is accused of helping McCluskey and two other inmates escape from a privately-operated Kingman prison on July 30. They were last spotted in Billings, Montana on August 6th, but their trail had grown cold until Thursday evening. Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow.
