Three prisoners escape prison in Golden Valley, one captured ![]()
Law enforcement in the western United States continued to hunt Sunday for two convicted murderers believed to be travelling together after escaping from the prison in Golden Valley
A third murderer who escaped with them on Friday was captured early Sunday in western Colorado. The three convicts fled after cutting a hole through a perimeter fence at the Arizona State Prison in Golden Valley. On Saturday morning, they kidnapped two tractor-trailer drivers at gunpoint and forced them to drive two hours east to Flagstaff, where they left them in the truck unharmed. Prison officials identified the convicts as Tracy Province, 42, who was serving a life sentence for murder and robbery; Daniel Renwick, 36, serving 22 years for second-degree murder; and John McClusky, 45, serving 15 years for second-degree murder, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm. Early Sunday, a police officer spotted Renwick in a brown sport utility vehicle in Rifle, Colo., about 700 miles from the medium-security Arizona prison, said Charles Ryan, director of the Arizona Department of Corrections. The officer pursued Renwick, gunshots were exchanged, and the convict was eventually taken into custody without anyone being hurt, Ryan said. Tracy Province, 42, is still at large after escaping with two other inmates, all convicted of murder. (Mohave County Sheriff's Office/Associated Press) Province and McCluskey are believed to be travelling with a 44-year-old woman suspected of helping in the escape. Authorities believe the three are in a silver, four-door Volkswagen Jetta with Arizona licence plate 334VAN. They said one of the convicts bought the car Saturday in west Phoenix. Police think he may have used a phoney identification during what apparently was a cash transaction. Casslyn Welch, an accomplice, was seen at the prison driving a vehicle prior to the incident. The vehicle she was driving appears to be a 1996 Chrysler Concord 4 door sedan Blue in color with a faded hood and roof (see enclosed picture) with an Arizona registration ABL7584. This vehicle has not been located; therefore the suspect(s) could possibly still be using the vehicle. "The information from law enforcement suggests they are still in Arizona, and there's an all-points bulletin out for these people," Ryan said. "We have great concerns that there was laxness on the part of security staff at this private prison, but I'm going to allow the investigation to run its course." Authorities said the men are considered dangerous and urged anyone with information to use caution and call police immediately. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the escaped inmates or the vehicle is asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 753-0753 or your local law enforcement agency.
