One drowned, dozens injured at River Regatta, thousands attend
A California man drowned and dozens more people were injured at the 2010 Annual Bullhead City River Regatta Saturday.
After reports of a missing man Saturday at around 3:00 p.m., an air rescue team spotted a body in the Colorado River. Scuba divers from the Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department recovered the body, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was reportedly not wearing a life vest when he jumped from a float into the river. In the regatta, people in kayaks and on floats travel down the Colorado River from the Bullhead/Laughlin Bridge in Davis Camp to Bullhead City's Rotary Park Beach -- about nine miles. The route passes by the Laughlin casinos and takes about three to four hours to complete. It wasn't clear if the man was a participant in the regatta, or one of many people who floated alongside the event without registering. The man's identity has not been released. More than 10,000 people were expected to participate in the event Saturday, which saw large floats launch from north of the Bullhead/Laughlin Bridge in Davis Camp at 9:00 a.m., form a parade past the Laughlin casinos and end at Bullhead City’s Rotary Park Beach. The Bullhead City Regatta website says, "Thank you to everyone who made the 2010 River Regatta a great event. Thousands and thousands of people turned out for this great event. Hundreds of volunteers and businesses made the event successful. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2011." Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow.
