MCSO special traffic detail Diamond Bar Road
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office conducted several special traffic enforcement details in September for Diamond Bar Rd. leading to the Grand Canyon West – Skywalk area. Two officers working four (4) days made over 50 traffic contacts resulting in 39 speed violations, 1 passing violation, 1 registration violation, and 1 insurance violation.
The Officers assigned to the detail also conducted 17 Motor Carrier Safety inspections on motor coaches, tour buses and other smaller commercial passenger carrying vehicles. Those inspections resulted in 25 Federal violations, 10 of which were safety violations with the remaining 3 violations being regulatory in nature. While inspecting the commercial tour operators, three buses were placed out of service until safety repairs could be made and one driver was placed out of service for failing to have his required medical documents. One of the detail officers, Sgt. Don Bischoff, said that the objective of the details was to try to slow down the motorists on Diamond Bar Rd. and at the same time to inspect the vehicles transporting visitors to insure they were safe and in compliance with all regulatory and safety regulations. Even though the paved section of Diamond Bar Rd is posted at 45 mph, Officers regularly clock speeds in excess of 70 and 80 mph on a daily basis. A majority of the violators are tourists from all over the world, Bischoff said. On August 30th, two tourists from Australia were killed when the Dodge Charger they were riding in crossed the center line and struck a Ford F350 pick up head on. That crash remains under investigation, but speed is suspected to be a contributing factor. Call or email us today and let GSX help your business to grow. Email: Click Here Phone: (928) 768-1400
