The recession is over, according to NBER, so what's this?
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recession that started in December 2007 ended in June 2009, making it longest since WWII.
In Mohave County, unemployment continues to hover at around 12%. In Clark County, unemployment is still setting all-time records at near 15%. Forecasters are predicting a new wave of foreclosures by the big banks and mortgage companies. The effects of such an event could be devastating. Many people, especially those who have lost their jobs and their homes, have become too discouraged to look for work. One out of three families are now living in poverty. As Jerry Gardner said in a letter to the Kingman Daily Miner, "One can only hope that all of you registered voters out there will remember all the crap these guys (politicians) have pulled come election time. If you don't, I guess you'll deserve a continuation of the shoddy representation you're getting now."
