AZ Secretary of State Ken Bennett visits Mohave County, presents election certificates
Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett visited Mohave County Tuesday, Jan. 24, to present certificates to county employees at the Administration Building in Kingman.
“Arizona State Statutes require the Secretary of State’s Office to train all county election officials, statewide, every two years,” Bennett said. “It is about a three- to four-day process the first time one is certified. Then, it is about a two- to three-day process to be recertified every two years.” Bennett presented Mohave County Elections Department and Recorder’s Office Voter Registration personnel certificates in recognition of their completion of the elections recertification process. Director Allen Tempert, Deputy Director Betty Vernon, Technician Charlie Abernathy and Assistant Nancy Krahulec from the Elections Department and Mohave County Voter Registration Office Assistants Erma Allen and Ramona Whitton received certifications from Bennett. Others who have completed the recertification process but were unavailable Tuesday are County Recorder Carol Meier, Chief Deputy Recorder Belva Perry, Administrative Assistant Kristi Rayevich and Voter Registration Supervisor Kim Stewart. “Those who are at the local county level are responsible to train the poll workers,” Bennett said. “But it is our (Secretary of State’s) office’s responsibility to train all the workers in the recorder’s offices and elections departments of each county.” And 2012 is a big year for elections, he said. “All 90 state legislative seats, a few statewide offices, a couple of corporate commissioner seats, a U.S. Senate seat and the president will be on the ballot this November. We will also have the Presidential Preference Election in about a month. There are lots of things going on as far as elections this year.” “I am very proud of the Elections Department and Voter Registration staff for going through certification,” Tempert said. “They learned all the new laws, regulations and such that we deal with on a regular basis. It’s well worth it and I am glad we do it every two years.”
