Search & Rescue receives donated communications repeater
Mohave County Sheriffs Office Search & Rescue received a portable communications repeater system from donations made to the Mohave County Division of Emergency Management from local fire districts and a few corporate partners. Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Browning said, “State and County public safety agencies are now seeing the largest decreases in the amount of federal homeland security grant funding for emergency equipment and supplies since these grants were established in the aftermath of 911.” In the past two years the County Sheriffs Office Search & Rescue Unit has submitted several homeland security projects applications to the State of Arizona for emergency communications & rescue equipment and none were funded due to the decreased federal grant funding awarded to the State. This year much of the 2012 Equipment and Communications Grants for Arizona are going toward upgrading both State and Tribal communication systems across the region from Fort Mojave to Yuma. The donation of radio equipment was made to the County by the Bullhead City and Northern Arizona Fire Districts, WECOM/DataMax of Kingman and Solomon Technology Solutions in Mesa Arizona. This equipment will be utilized on search & rescue missions located south of Lake Havasu City in the desert areas where public safety radio coverage is limited.
