Handicap-accessible, touch-screen (TSX) voting equipment goes through a series of accuracy tests prior to any election. During the Presidential Preference Election (PPE) in February, there will be one TSX machine at every voting poll site; 36 throughout the county.

Mohave County members of the Republican and Green parties will have the chance to vote during the PPE.

Only those two parties have chosen to participate in Arizona’s PPE this year, said Voter Registration Supervisor Kim Stewart, County Recorder’s Office. “The PPE is not a primary. It is more of a party caucus.”

In Arizona, during a Primary Election, Independents can select either a Republican or Democrat party ballot. But during a PPE, only members of participating parties can vote.

“Arizona Republicans will have 23 listed candidates from which to choose,” Stewart said. “Green Party members will have six. There are close to 100 active Green Party members in Mohave County.”

On Election Day, Tuesday, Feb. 28, all voters who wish to vote and did not vote early must vote at their polling place between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone who does not know where his or her polling place is can go to the Mohave County website (www.co.mohave.az.us) and select Departments, Elections, and then click on Find Your Polling Place; or call the Elections Department at (928) 753-0733, option 2.

“Early voting will start Thursday, Feb. 2, countywide,” Stewart said. “Early voting for active-duty military members started a couple of weeks ago. Early voting continues through February 24, which is the Friday prior to Election Day.”

There is one early voting polling place in each of the three cities: in Lake Havasu City at the Aquatic Community Center, 100 Park Avenue; in Bullhead City at the Mohave County Annex Building, 1130 Hancock Road; and in Kingman at the County Administration Building, 700 West Beale Street, on the second floor in the Voter Registration Office.

“Anyone who wants to vote in this PPE must be registered as either a Republican or Green party member,” she said. “The last day to register is Monday, Jan. 30. Voter Registration forms can be picked up at any U.S. Post Office, Mohave County Library, County Voter Registration office or Motor Vehicle Division office. Residents can also register online at Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s website (www.azsos.gov) until midnight on January 30.”

The last day to request an early ballot be mailed to a resident’s home is February 17. That request can be made in person at the Voter Registration office in the County Administration Building, by calling (928) 753-0767, or by going to the Mohave County website (www.co.mohave.az.us), selecting Departments, Recorder and then clicking on Early Ballot Request Form.

“The key word for residents to remember is ‘President,’” Stewart said. “The county, state and congressional offices up for election are not on the PPE ballot. They will be on the Primary Election ballot in August.”
