Laughlin officer killed in early Saturday morning crash 
A Laughlin Corrections Officer, Daniel Leach, 49, of Boulder City, was involved in a fatal crash on U.S. 95 near Searchlight shortly before 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. He was driving the prison transport vehicle from the Clark County Detention Center to the facility in Laughlin at the time of the accident. His transport vehicle hit a truck hauling a trailer in a T-bone fashion as that truck crossed into the officers lane.
Officer Leach worked for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and was assigned to the Laughlin Tucker Holding Facility. He was a 25 year veteran of the force. The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured and were cooperating fully with Metro's investigation of this accident. At this time there is no word whether Officer Leach was wearing his seat belt or if speed played a role in this accident.
