County hopes unemployment evens out in 2010

Mohave County's department of economic development says they're hoping a new study comes true. The study shows the nationwide unemployment beginning to lighten up by the end of 2010, with a long, slow recovery to follow.

There have been some signs of stability within the county economy because most of the economic damage done by the recession has been done. The storm has passed and rebuilding can finally begin.

On top of that, he said the county's underlying economic strengths - proximity to large cities and multiple transportation routes, desirable Sun Belt climate, consistent sunshine and wind - make it poised for new growth in several fields, which will then assist a rebound in other, harder-hit fields such as housing construction and retail.

Many of the workers displaced by the downturn in new housing construction may find new work once various countywide solar and wind energy projects come to fruition in 2011 and beyond. Mohave County has great assets to be attractive to solar companies in particular, and due to the emphasis that our country is placing on renewable energy, we expect more of those in the future.
