Police officer shot, killed at home
Las Vegas - A Las Vegas Metro police officer was shot and killed Thursday 11/19 at home in his garage. He was identified by the Clark County Coroner as Trevor Nettleton, 30, and had been with the Metro Police Department since 2006.
Nettleton died after a brief shootout during a botched robbery at his home. “Like so many people who come home and open up their garage door, he appears to be a random victim,” said Metro police Undersheriff Rod Jett. “For him to lose his life in such a senseless way is tragic,” Jett said. “His poor mother, who comes out here for Thanksgiving, she’ll never forget this Thanksgiving, that’s for sure.” The officer's mother, wife and two toddlers were inside the house when he was killed. Nettleton was a Washington-state native who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps, a Yakima, WA newspaper reported Thursday. He was a graduate of Davis High School in 1997 and spent seven years in the Marines, where he was assigned to the Bush White House. Metro PD announced Thursday afternoon that three of the four suspects involved in the burglary are in custody. The man suspected of killing Nettleton was being treated for injuries at University Medical Center’s trauma center at the time this report came through.
