More than 30 hunters missing in Northern AZ
Flagstaff area - More than 30 hunters are presumed to be stranded in remote parts of Northern Arizona after the area was hit by severe storms on Monday and Tuesday. Coconino County Sheriff's Office said deputies are working with search and rescue units to track at least 11 reports of stranded hunters. CCSO said that as of 5:00 p.m. four groups of hunters were located with three groups transported to safety and one refusing transport.
Meanwhile, there have been three additional reports of stranded parties, including a man and his two sons. There have been numerous calls from family or interested parties of hunters who are trapped by the significant snow accumulations. CCSO has received reports from a range of sources, including victims calling in on their cell phones, family members reporting overdue hunters and hunters in the field reporting sightings of stranded parties. CCSO has also partnered with the Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue Division, Arizona Game and Fish and the United States Forest Service to coordinate available resources and personnel in the rescue missions. According to CCSO, responses are being prioritized by the circumstances surrounding each incident. Rescue teams are assessing provisions available to the stranded individuals, their geographic location, the number of individuals in each party, and the estimated threat level for each group.
