12/1 Carson City, NV - Nevada taxable sales falling double-digit% monthly

Sales in Nevada have fallen over 18% in the past month alone. Sales fell 18% percent in November, marking the 13th straight month of double-digit declines.

A report issued on Tuesday by the state Department of Taxation says merchants sold $3.2 billion in goods during the month. For the first quarter of the fiscal year that began July 1, sales are down 20%.

About $38 million in taxable sales were reported under an amnesty program in September 2008. Excluding that adjustment, September 2009 sales would have decreased 17%.

Gross revenues collections from sales and use taxes totaled $247.7 million, representing a 13% percent decline from the same month last year and a 15% percent decrease for the fiscal year.

At this rate, perhaps Nevada merchants will pay Arizonans to come and take their merchandise and services.
